Depression Stems
U.S. Glass
Reverse Watermelon
U.S. Glass was one of those conglomerates that sort of gobbled up many
different glass companies in the late 1800's to become one gigantic entity. During their heyday they produced many designs, styles
and colors of glassware ranging from the elegant to the ordinary/functional.
Watermelon glass was one of their prettiest color combinations. Usually
watermelon stemware was a pink bowl on a green stem and foot.
Sometimes only the foot was green. The glassware with both foot and
the stem in green is valued more highly by collectors. However, there
are 2 color combinations that are valued even more highly because of their
scarcity. The first is what we call "reverse watermelon" where the
bowl is green and the stem and foot are pink. Those are shown below.
The second, and even harder to find, is what we call "double reverse
watermelon" where both the stem and bowl are green and the foot is pink.
You can click on the links below to see the various combinations.
