Morgantown Glass
Red
Filament
The Morgantown Glass Works of Morgantown, W.VA was one
of the greatest innovators in glass design. Its unusual shapes placed it a step
ahead of the other companies of the times. For a period of about 26 years, in the
early 1900s, the company operated under the name of the Economy Tumbler Co, but went back
to the name Morgantown in 1929. The company reasoned that the quality of the glass
they were producing made its name misleading. Some of the colors of their glassware
were blue, ritz blue, pink, red, amber, black, green, jade, amethyst, magenta, yellow,
ruby, etc. etc. The name Filament refers to the style of the goblet. Each
goblet, made in various shapes and sizes, had a line of color running thru the length of a
clear stem.
