Depression Glass
Moderntone Cobalt
Moderntone, as you can see, is a very simple
pattern. The color is a deep rich blue. It was made by Hazel Atlas Glass from
1934 to 1942. It was also made in amethyst, some crystal and pink and in fired-on
colors called Platonite. The lids for the sugar and the butter dish are metal and
have different color knobs. The lid for the butter dish fits inside the rim and rests on a
ledge or lip. There is a punch set which utilizes a Hazel Atlas mixing bowl and the
Moderntone custard cups as punch cups. Moderntone was also made in children's
dishes. (We are sorry but we cannot email photos of each and every piece of glass
for sale. If you need to see a picture of an item to know what it looks like we
highly recommend The Collector's Encyclopedia of Depression Glass by Gene
Florence.)
