Kitchen Glass
McKee Black
The McKee and Brothers Co began in 1853 in Pittsburgh,
PA. In 1888 the company moved to a town that was ultimately named Jeannette (PA) for
the wife of McKee's founder. In 1903 the company was renamed McKee Glass Co. and
that stayed until 1951 when they became a division of the Thatcher Glass Co. McKee
introduced color to its lines in the early 20's. Their colors were yellow, blue,
custard, amethyst, black, white, amber, canary, green, pink, ruby, orchid, jadite and
various shades of each. A number of their white pieces were decorated; and such
decoration included "dots" and "ships".
