Elegant Glass
Fostoria
Fostoria is the oldest, biggest and probably most
well-known glass manufacturer still in business today. They began in Ohio in 1887
but soon moved to West Virginia. They started making pressed or pattern glass and
made many of the beautiful "Gone With the Wind" lamps that are so popular
today. In the early 1900s they began glass for the home. In 1924 they started
with color. In 1925 they were the first glass house to introduce glass dinnerware
in color. They also experimented with etching and it is primarily those patterns,
etched and done in color, that are so popular and collectible today.
